Portuguese Phrases for Meeting and Greeting

É um prazer conhecê-lo. I am pleased to meet you.

Falaram-me muito de você. I have heard so much about you.

Foi um prazer conhecê-lo. It was nice meeting you.

Não entendo. I don't understand.

Compreendo perfeitamente. I understand perfectly.

Compreende? Do you understand?

Compreendo-o se falar devagar. I understand if you speak slowly.

É muito melhor. That is much better.

Que disse? What did you say?

Portuguese Dialog

John:	Bom dia. Good morning? Fala inglês? Do you speak English?
Teresa:	Desculpe-me, não falo inglês. I'm sorry, I don't speak English.
John:	Receio que só falo um pouco de português. I'm afraid I only speak a little Portuguese.
Teresa:	Não faz mal. That's all right. Fala muito bem. You speak very well.
John:	Fico nervoso quando falo português. I get nervous when I speak Portuguese.
Teresa:	Compreendo-o muito bem. I understand you very well.
